Citations: where AI gets its answers
When an AI engine answers with web grounding, it cites its sources. The Citations page collects every one of those sources across your checks, so you can see which websites are shaping what AI says about your category.
What the page shows
- You cited as a source: the share of grounded answers that cited your own website. This is the core AEO scoreboard.
- Cited sources: every domain and page the AI pulled from, ranked by how often. Switch between Domains and URLs with the toggle.
- Names you: of a source's citations, how many came from answers that also mentioned your brand. A heavily-cited source showing 0 is your best outreach target: the AI trusts it and you are absent from it.
- Citations by category: whether AI leans on review listicles, blogs, vendor sites or communities for your category, so you know where to focus.
- Brand share of citations: which brands tend to appear alongside the sources being cited.
How to use it for outreach
- 1Switch the filter to "Without your brand": these are answers where AI cited sources but never mentioned you.
- 2Sort down the Cited sources list and look for high cite counts with a 0 in the Names you column.
- 3Work those sources: get listed on the comparison pages, pitch the blogs, join the community threads.
- 4Re-check in a few weeks and watch whether your self-citation rate and Names you counts move.
Citations cover the last 90 days and come only from web-grounded answers. Every engine grounds, on every plan. Some engines name the source but not the exact page, those rows are marked “site-level”.
