AI visibility

The AI readiness audit

The AI readiness audit checks whether AI crawlers can reach, read and understand your site: what your robots.txt allows, what a crawler actually receives, and whether your pages carry real text, schema and canonicals. It uses no credits.

What it checks

  • Bot access: whether robots.txt allows the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI surfaces, and whether your server actually serves them. We fetch your homepage as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot to find out.
  • AI indexability: whether your pages answer 200, avoid noindex and noai directives, redirect at most once, and use HTTPS.
  • Content readiness: whether pages carry real text in the HTML a crawler receives, respond quickly, and publish structured data, canonical tags, a sitemap and an llms.txt.
  • Up to fifty pages are sampled: the pages your AI answers already cite first, then your sitemap, then the links on your homepage.

How to read a finding

  • Declared: read from your own files or headers. It is what your site says.
  • Simulated: what we received when we fetched it ourselves, sometimes as an AI crawler. It is what we saw.
  • Points: how much the overall score rises if that one issue is fixed. Critical issues weigh three times an advisory.

How to fix an issue

  1. 1Open an issue and click "Show the fix for your site". Where the fix is a file or a tag, the code is written for your site: your own disallow rules, sitemap and pages.
  2. 2If we recognised your platform (WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Framer, HubSpot CMS or Next.js), the steps say where the change goes on it.
  3. 3Make the change, give your CDN a few minutes, then click Re-run. The previous result stays on screen until the new one is ready.

Our crawler

  • The audit identifies itself as PresenceScoutAudit/1.0 with a link to this page, and reads your pages as GPTBot, because what matters is what an AI crawler receives.
  • It makes at most 160 requests per run, a few at a time, and skips any page your robots.txt disallows, for PresenceScoutAudit if you name it, otherwise for all crawlers.
  • To check a single page without an account, use the free AI crawler checker at /tools/ai-crawler-checker.
  • It runs only when someone with access to your brand in Presence Scout starts it. It still reads robots.txt, sitemap.xml, llms.txt and the homepage; to stop it entirely, block the PresenceScoutAudit user agent at your firewall.
The audit cannot see your server logs, so it cannot say how often AI crawlers actually visit. It measures whether they can get in and what they find when they do.
